Dhootha
A fantastic Supernatural thriller series
In
December 2023 fantastic web series titled ‘Dhootha’ was released on Amazon
Prime Video. It is a Telugu language web series. It is also dubbed in Hindi
language and some other South Indian languages. The subtitles are available in
many languages including Hindi. Hence, those who don’t understand Telugu can
enjoy it in Hindi. But, most of the times we like to enjoy the film or web
series in the original language in which it is shot. By doing so we can get the
realistic and authentic feel. We can hear the dialogues in original language
and understand the meaning by way of reading subtitles. Such type of viewing
gives a very different kind of thrill and joy.
The
story of ‘Dhootha’ revolves around the world of journalism. The web series shows
the pious journalist values in which the freedom fighters believed during pre-independence
era when they were fighting against British. Later on in post-independence
times an ugly nexus between politicians and journalists is developed which
leads to moral degradation of the profession of journalism. Journalists by
taking favours and money from powerful politicians promote their agenda and create
the deliberate narratives so that politicians can benefit from it. In this web
series it has been shown how the profession of journalism has become corrupt. It
shows how newspapers and new age media has systematically forgotten their duty
and responsibility towards society.
Naga
Chaitanya Akkineni plays the lead role in ‘Dhootha’. He is shown the
Editor-in-Chief of a leading daily for whom the ‘business’ of newspaper is more
important than following ethical principles of journalism. Naga Chaitanya has
depicted his character in a superb manner. His acting is simply fantastic. Naga
Chaitanya has connections with two famous and talented families from Telugu
film industry. His paternal grandfather was well known actor and producer
Akkineni Nageswara Rao. D. (Daggubati) Ramanaidu was his maternal grandfather
who was also very famous film producer. D. Ramanaidu had produced films in many
Indian languages including Hindi apart from Telugu. Both Akkineni Nageswara Rao
and D. Ramanaidu were given the most prestigious Dadasaheb Phalkey Award for
their contribution to Indian cinema. Actor Venkatesh is his maternal uncle. Telugu
Superstar Nagarjuna Akkineni is father of Naga Chaitanya. Akkineni family also
owns Annapurna Film Studio in Hyderabad.
Apart
from Naga Chaitanya, the ‘Dhootha’ stars Parvathy Thiruvothu, Prachi Desai, Priya
Bhavani Shankar and Ravindra Vijay in important roles.
The
‘Dhootha’ has eight episodes. The titles of these episodes are – ‘The Puzzle ‘,
‘Editorial Cartoon’, ‘Horoscope’, ‘Crime Report’, ‘Page 3’, ‘This Day, That
Year’, ‘Continued on Page 6’ and ‘Headlines’.
The
‘Dhootha’ is directed by Vikram K. Kumar. He has also directed horror film like
13:B Fear has New Address. Hence, it is but for sure that he presents a
carefully crafted and beautifully directed supernatural thriller like ‘Dhootha’
to viewers. He has picturized and shot the entire web series in very realistic
manner. Especially, the way the rainy season scenes and gloomy days are shot is
beyond description. You have to actually watch it and feel it.
